E.C. Chen, the founder of Mayakoba, got his start manufacturing home-use massage chairs for the consumer market. During a BBSI trade show, a few distributors approached him with a single question that would change everything: “Can you put your massage chair on a pedicure spa?”
With a goal to give customers what they need to be successful and a spirit of service, he said, “Yes!” without even knowing what a pedicure spa was. That single “yes” sparked a two-decade journey of reimagining what the nail furnishings industry could be.
Over the years, Mr. Chen witnessed distributor challenges firsthand — inconsistent quality, unclear pricing, and false promises. Suppliers lacked structure, reliability, and accountability.
From these challenges, Mayakoba (MK) was born. The aim was not just to make pedicure spas, but to raise the standard for beauty and wellness furnishings as a whole.
